Victoria's Secret + The Spice Girls = Fashion News!

This week's big Hollywood event was the Victoria's Secret fashion show. There was quite the turnout to see the Angels strut their lingerie-clad stuff. (Who wouldn't want to be there?) If supermodels in underwear wasn't enough - the crowds clamored to see the first reunion date of the eponymous Spice Girls... ahem, Spice Ladies.  Anyways... as usual, some celebs hit the mark with their fashion choices and others missed it completely. For the most part... it wasn't too bad, here's a few of the highlights.

As you can see above, Heidi Klum and her hubby Seal totally rocked their respective outfits - and just looked bad-ass. They seem like such a happy couple that's not afraid to go all the way with their fashion choices.  On the other hand, inkstress Kat Von D wore her own version of lingerie(?) I guess. It's just all over a horrible outfit. She needs to give those pants back to David Lee Roth - there's no need to try so hard... cuz Kat is a bad-ass and she should just be happy being hotter than hot.

Speaking of hotter than hot... although all of the Spice girls are looking good... their outfits (except for Mel B's) are really quite bad. Maybe it's because I'm getting used to Scary Spice's hideous dancing outfits on Dancing with the Stars, but I though she looked understated and quite pretty. That's the good news... Baby Spice and Ginger Spice (Emma Bunton and Geri Halliwell) are wearing Britney's old cast-offs (see above). I guess the tour money isn't rolling in yet. There's not much to say about Mel C except that she looks like a midwestern lesbian school teacher chaperoning a homecoming dance. And Victoria Beckham is her usual avant garde self. She decided to wear a bra and short shorts accessorized pink halter dress she hung over her neck. You know when you're shopping and you hold a dress up trying to see what it will look like without trying it on? Posh forgot to go ahead and put it on.  Interesting.....

A tale of Hollywood blondes....

Oh to be young and blonde in Hollywood. It must get confusing with a stylist, hairdresser, editors, etc. all telling you what you should be wearing if you're an "it" girl. Choices, choices.

Well, today we're featuring the two extremes of "vintage-inspired" fashion. Reese Witherspoon is looking all kinds of casual chic in a little black day dress, Jackie-O sunglasses and some sexy sandals while she's out running errands. Very Audrey Hepburn indeed. On the other hand, Kate Bosworth is channeling my junior high fashion nightmare. I swear I had that ruffled, plaid blouse that I wore with a prairie skirt. Not good. Especially not good with those high-waisted baby-bells. While Reese is having a Breakfast at Tiffany's day, Kate is reliving That 70s Show.

A surprisingly fashionable VMAs!

Clickie pickie makey biggie

For an MTV event - the ladies turned it out quite well last night at the Video Music Awards. I will decline from even rating Britney Spears' outfit... cuz, really, when was the last time she wore anything worth discussing? The lovely ladies above showed some restraint and real fashion sense while keeping a sense of humor about the whole thing. Let's break it down...

Rihanna's bright pink number reminds me of Jessica Rabbit. You have to have major confidence to pull off that look - and the songstress has that in spades. Alicia Keys shows us all how to properly pour yourself into a dress (pay attention Mariah and Britney!) keeping the whole look understated and uber-sexy. Jennifer Garner looks age-appropriate in a mid-thigh mini dress. Normally I hate dresses that are short in the front and long in the back... but I really like Pussycat doll Nicole Scherzinger's dress. The wrap-around collar allowed for a bare back and a very Cleopatra vibe. Nice choice!

On the flip side... rapper Lil' Mama wins hands-down for the worst dressed of the night. Believe it or not... she had a whole "concept" behind this getup... something about the "birth of hip-hop" and her just being a baby? Made no sense to me either, and should not be accepted as a viable excuse for dressing like that. Better luck next time Mama!

Classicly Cool Cate - Best Dressed of all time! okay... 2007!

clickie pickie makey biggie

2007 is suiting up to be a great year for the ever stylish Cate Blanchett. She is one of my favorite style icons ever! She is in her thirties, a risk-taker, always conscious of how she looks and not afraid to be over-the-top glam with a cheeky sense of humor. Even if every look isn't my favorite - she doesn't shy away from challenging fashion looks. Only someone with the grace of a supermodel and confidence of a prizefighter can be truly daring - and Cate's got what it takes.  She's been strutting her style stuff all over the globe this year - and is a "must-see" at this year's Oscars. I'm sure she'll look outrageously beautiful.

Pics left to right: Palm Springs Film Festival, Berlin Film Festival, Armani at Paris Fashion Week, a Penfold's part, Golden Globe Awards, and the SAG Awards. Keep up with Cate at cateblanchett.net.

Celebs cruise the shopping strips in casual cool style.

The usual celebs are out and about getting their post-Thanksgiving pre-Christmas hysteria shopping done in casually and chicly. Victoria Beckham played it down in a cute skull-patterned sweater, boots and skinny jeans before leaving Rome where she was attending the Tomkat extravaganza. I guess after a weekend of fashion debauchery... a pair of jeans was looking quite good that morning. Gwen Stefani stepped out in a long green cable-knit sweater coat looking every bit the classically cool icon she is. Jessica Simpson, on the other hand, had all the right pieces to work with, but couldn't put together a look that didn't look way overdone. The jacket and purse are cool... but would look better with a plain ol pair of Levis, a tank top and some understated knee high boots. Make sure you look your best when holiday shopping... you never know who's watching!

Beauties and their beastly outfits!

First the good news... these lovely ladies have been rocking the knee-length dresses and looking amazing while doing it! Janet Jackson looks so much better with a pretty dress than something ab-baring and obnoxious. This brown frock complements her coloring and shape fabulously. Ashley Judd looks fresh and frilly in a pretty white spaghetti strap number while Jamie Lee Curtis looks age-appropriate and amazing in a body-conscious sheath. It's hard to believe that Jamie Pressly plays the #1 white trash mama on TV in this tasteful lacy number. Nice job ladies!

Now for the not so good news... these pics pretty much speak for themselves. It wasn't the best of weeks for Eva Longoria as she showed up in a mess of mismatched layers while Nicolette Sheridan forgot her pants one recent afternoon. Catherine Zeta Jones decided to whip her drapes up into a dress while Jude Law left his outfit in the dryer a little too long. Better luck next time folks.

Highs and lows of this week's celebrity fashion

Jennifer Lopez has been looking glamorous out and about town these days. I picked this look as her best because it takes a special body to pull off that corset look and not look like a cheap halloween costume. I think Alyson Hannigan looks cute and fresh in her mini dress at a People's Choice party - while Britney Spears gets most improved of the millenium in a demure black and gold frock while leaving the David Letterman show this week.. Finally, this girl looks like she has a buck in the bank! Ditching Fed-ex does a body good?

Meanwhile... Victoria Beckham, Nelly Furtado and Lindsay Lohan didn't quite pull their collective looks together. Pushing the fashion envelope isn't always the best idea - especially if we're talking about burlap sacks, tattoo sleeves and grandma's old lace bedroom drapes on the red carpet. Better luck next time....

The Best and Worst dressed of the week....

Hollywood honeys are steppin' out and looking glam these days - Anne Hathaway, Nicole Kidman and Teri Hatcher all strutted their stuff in form-fitting frocks. On the other hand...

Other usually-lovely ladies have seen better days! Sienna Miller showed up in an awkward napkin that looks like it was twisted around her by Tim Burton - and Mischa Barton went all wrong in an 80s inspired mess of a dress! Elisha Cuthbert, I don't even know what to say! I suppose it's an alternative to the dress made out of my grandmother's curtains that Jennifer Love Hewitt donned for a recent shopping trip.

All the fashion that's fit to trash...

This week had it's share of fashion mishaps of the rich and famous. Mena Suvari still has bad bangs and WAAAAY to many layers going on. Simplify Mena, simplify!

Sharon Stone has just gone off the deep end - I remember that car wash hems were all the rage a few years ago, but I'm not sure this is how the fad should be revisited. Sharon's "ass"ets never looked better however.

And bless her heart, where are the gays when a girl really needs them? Debra Messing was looking a hot mess in her outfit from the Speigel Together collection. No more white after Labor Day and no more catalog shopping Debra!

But the celeb who had the biggest swing from high to low this week is none other than Kirsten Dunst. She showed up looking chic in Chanel at a Marie Antoinette party and dumpy in dungarees and knee socks while out on the town. Take care of those extensions Kirsten... they'll rat out your true fashion sense if you're not careful, literally!

Celebs turn out for New York Fashion Week...

September's Spring 2007 Fashion Week in New York was adequately attended by celebs of all star powers and statures. The usual suspects were at various shows and parties including the Olsen Twins, Victoria Beckham, Sean Lennon, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Kanye West , Usher, Sarah Jessica Parker, and dozens more pretended to not be intimidated as they sat in the front rows all week.  A few of those stars on parade shown brighter while some were dim and dumpy. Drew Barrymore looked HAWT at a Ralph Lauren party... while Eva Mendes looked like a modern day Sophia Loren in a beautiful black outfit. Mena Suvari and Kirsten "dumpy" Dunst missed the mark in mismatched layered nightmares. Less is more ladies, less is more!! And what's with the crazy hair Mena? She's a notorious bang abuser... bag the bangs Mena, quick!

See lots more party pics at NYMetro. They've got full coverage on all the designers. Here's 10 hot shows if you want a quickie tour of what you'll be donning this spring...

Anna Sui, Badgley Mischka, BCBG Max Azria, Betsey Johnson, Heatherette, Imitation of ChristL.A.M.B., Marc Jacobs, Project Runway, and Zac Posen.

2006 Emmy Fashion Roundup

Despite the triple-digit heat, the stars were shining on the red carpet at the 2006 58th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards last night.

(clickey pickie makey biggie!)

Some stars were shining a little brighter than others as evidenced by my personal pics for the evening... those who should be praised include... (top left - bottom right) Portia Di Rossi, Calista Flockhart, Heidi Klum, Kyra Sedgwick, Debra Messing, Katherine Heigl, Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Helen Mirren. I absolutely love Portia's shoes and handbag - she just looks classy. Heidi is the prettyiest pregnant person on the planet. I know a lot of people didn't like Kyra's Armani Prive gown, but I thought it was really pretty, impractical for the occasion, but nonetheless it fit her beautifully. Debra, Katherine, Julia and Helen were visions in white and shades of white. My number one BEST DRESSED PIC: Julia Louis-Dreyfus. Seinfeld Curse, be damned!

(clickey pickie makey biggie!)

Whether you call it aubergine, eggplant or just plain 'ol purple - it was all the rage on the red carpet. Let's call it the new black, shall we? Those in the know included (l-r): Sandra Oh (Oh, please lay off the necklaces next time!), Jamie Pressley, Cheryl Hines (a little too ice-skater costume for me!), Virginia Madsen in a purple sash, Leah Remini, Megan Mullaly, Ellen Pompeo and Evangeline Lilly. I think Leah and Evangeline looked FABULOUS in this fruity shade while Cheryl, Ellen and Sandra made a mess of it.

And NOW... drumroll please... what you've all been waiting for... the WORST DRESSED...

(clickey pickie makey biggie!)

The top row tried to reflect the lightness and brightness of summer, but sadly just showed off their bad judgment. Candice Bergen united her skirt/shirt separates with a cowboy belt buckle, Paula Abdul sprouted a stem from her dress into her hair, Kimberly Caldwell (of American Idol) was unrecognizable with a bad dress and worse hairdo, Eva Longoria got dressed for a toga party  while Vanessa Mannillo channelled her inner showgirl. And Stephen Cojacaru, Kojacaru, Kojacoocoo, Kajagoogoo, I'm mean Cojo - paired a leopard print top with teeny white pants... not a good look. Seriously.

But I think the saddest of them all were the ladies of the night wearing dark and dowdy frocks. Lisa Kudrow's hair and makeup looked beautiful, but her dress looked like a bridesmaid's dress. Mariska Hargitay looks fabulous after having a nearly 11 pound baby, but her dress looked like she was trying too hard to cover herself up and her hair looked too done. She should be rockin' that new mom glow thing! Tina Fey has got to get rid of the 80's haircut and wear some color. I'm not sure what look Gillian Anderson was going for, but pregnant nun should only be done for Halloween. Morgan Fairchild and Tyra Banks missed the lecture on "less-is-more". Morgan's satin gloves were atrocious and her boobs were outrageously in everyone's face. Tyra's dress cost  over $50,000, and  she looked like she was wearing a $50,000 see-through spa seaweed wrap .

Best undressed does Vanity Fair...

kate moss on vanity fair

Vanity Fair names their best of the best dressed by giving Kate the icing for her comeback cake with this partially nude and very stylish cover. Her jetsetting style puts her in good company - including Oprah Winfrey, Condoleeza Rice (since when is a stick up the butt stylish?), George Clooney and Renee Zellweger. I guess Condi made the list for those scandalous boots she wore last fall -- she's quite the trendsetter inside the beltway!

The mag did a good job of recognizing the risktakers -- givin 'em mad props for their high style -- my favorites include Gwen Stefani, Kanye West and my man, Anderson Cooper. Kanye and Gwen can get away with just about anything as long as they're rockin' a hard bod and workin' the attitude. Anderson stands out among newsmen as one of the only relevant newsmen under the age of 120, even though he's got the gray, he makes war look sexy. Source
