Hollywood Babies - the 2007 recap

Oh what a year it was for the baby birthing set in Hollywood! Either the fertile flock to La-la land or there is something in the water out west as 2007 was quite a year for celebrity babies. There was no shortage of scandal (the Bridget Moynahan-Tom Brady-Gisele Bundchen love triangle and Eddie Murphy/Scary Spice paternity debacle), tragedy (Dennis Quaid's near-fatal hospital mix-up), silly baby names (Halcyon? Heaven Rain?) or twins (Marcia Cross, Dennis Quaid, Patrick Dempsey, etc). See the complete baby list after the jump in chronological order. The class of 2007 should be a fun bunch at Beverly Hills High in 2015!

Little black no-nos.

It's very, very rare that Cate Blanchett makes an appearance on my worst dressed list - but I just couldn't find the logic behind this outfit she wore to the opening of Elizabeth: The Golden Age this week. Her dress reminded me of something you might find at a high school homecoming dance and I completely don't understand the furry shoes. This time I didn't find Cate's unique look fashion-forward... I found it a fashion-fiasco.

It seems Cate wasn't the only celeb to fall victim to the fuzzy fashion trend. Funny lady Fran Drescher made an appearance wearing half of an ostrich on the red carpet as well. Not a good look ladies... but, never fear, the two of you have never looked better (outside of the clothes)!

Cate Blanchett does Australian Vogue

Cate Blanchett dons this fall's Couture finest in the pages of this August's Australian Vogue. As usual, she does not disappoint. Click on the pictures below to enlarge.

Vogue’s cover girl Cate Blanchett is one of the world’s most fashionable women, an icon of style designers clamour to dress. These exquisite, painterly portraits, shot by the Vogue team in Sydney, present our muse in a fanfare of fabulous couture, while Cate tells all about work, rest and plays. Source

Bob a la Blanchett - Cate does Dylan!

Cate Blanchett is a true chameleon... not only does she have the sequel to Elizabeth I, The Golden Age,  coming out this fall but she is also diving into the depths of Bob Dylan's psyche in I'm not There. Here's the first clip I've seen of the Oscar winner portraying the grammy winner. I love the moodiness - I wouldn't recognize her if I didn't already know. She's really an amazing actress. Uh oh, goofy girl crush alert!

Costumed Cate is a confection

My all-time favorite actress, Cate Blanchett, will be revisiting her iconic role as Queen Elizabeth in this fall's The Golden Age. Geoffrey Rush is back as her confidante and trusty sidekick while this time around sexy Clive Owen as Sir Walter Raleigh catches her romantic eye. I'm sure fireworks will ensue, being QE is known for her virginal status... but, hey, it's the movies!

I'm a total sucker (and, yes I know, a big dork) for a costume drama and this time it looks like I'm gonna hit the jackpot. Check out this trailer if you're in the mood for a little costume porn like me. The movie releases everywhere in October but will debut in September at the Toronto film festival as it's Gala feature. ooh, la, la! I can't wait, I can't wait!! Photo source

Six degrees of freelulu!
Okay, here goes, this one is a technicality because it involves a little time travel, but I'm counting it anyways. My husband (1) has an ancestor who shall remain nameless (2) who was beheaded by the order of Henry the VIII (3) who is Queen Elizabeth's father (4) who is played by Cate Blanchett (5) in the movie!

Oh, what a week it's been for Brangelina

Angelina Jolie has made it official - and has added to her broadening brood one adorable little boy from Vietnam. She picked up a playmate for Maddox - evening out the kid count to 2 boys and 2 girls.

The boy's name is Pax Thien Jolie, born in November 2003, according to the orphanage where he has lived. His name means Peaceful Sky – Pax is peace in Latin and Thien is sky in Vietnamese.

"Thank you for taking such wonderful care of my son," the Oscar-winning actress wrote in the visitors' book of the Tam Binh orphanage, according to Reuters. "I am sure he will miss your beautiful, caring staff as much as you will miss him."

Jolie's rep says she took custody of the child on Thursday in Vietnam. They will remain in the country for about a week while the child's American passport is processed, the rep says. Read more...

Pax has no idea how lucky he is.. he's not only going to lead a fabulous life, but he has a real family to call his own. I commend Angie and Brad for opening their homes and lives to adopt and accept needy children as their own. It takes special people to be good adoptive parents, and I think they understand the commitment and are building a beautiful family. They will make a kick-ass Benneton ad someday.

Just a funny note... I saw Mia Farrow on Bill Maher's HBO show last week talking about Angelina's latest adoption. She was asked if she felt competitive at all, and she replied that when Angie got up to her 10th child, she (Mia) would start thinking about adopting a few more. Funny.

Meanwhile, a star is born back at home. Shiloh didn't want all the attention to be lost on her latest sibling - so she stepped in on the set of her daddy Brad Pitt's latest movie, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, when a much lesser-caliber baby couldn't keep it together to get through her scene. Baby Shiloh saved the day and did her daddy proud! Her big debut will be playing Cate Blanchett's character as a baby.

She definitely has her mommy and daddy's genes... acting is in her blood. Who wouldn't want to see that face on a 30-foot high screen? too cute! Source

Classicly Cool Cate - Best Dressed of all time! okay... 2007!

clickie pickie makey biggie

2007 is suiting up to be a great year for the ever stylish Cate Blanchett. She is one of my favorite style icons ever! She is in her thirties, a risk-taker, always conscious of how she looks and not afraid to be over-the-top glam with a cheeky sense of humor. Even if every look isn't my favorite - she doesn't shy away from challenging fashion looks. Only someone with the grace of a supermodel and confidence of a prizefighter can be truly daring - and Cate's got what it takes.  She's been strutting her style stuff all over the globe this year - and is a "must-see" at this year's Oscars. I'm sure she'll look outrageously beautiful.

Pics left to right: Palm Springs Film Festival, Berlin Film Festival, Armani at Paris Fashion Week, a Penfold's part, Golden Globe Awards, and the SAG Awards. Keep up with Cate at cateblanchett.net.

Casting Cate as Artistic Director

Cate Blanchett is taking on a brand new role - one that make take her out of the limelight we love to see her in. This past week the Australian-born Oscar-winning actress and her playwright husband Andrew Upton were named artisitic directors of the Sydney Theater Company starting in 2008.

The Australian-born actress said the artistic director role would become her new full-time job, although she and Upton would be free for three months each year to pursue their own projects. "Sometimes I may take that up and sometimes I may not," Blanchett said. "Obviously, as and when situations come up, I will seriously consider it if they lure me away from what frankly is the most exciting thing that has ever happened to us, apart from marriage and the children."

Although I think this opportunity is great for Miss Cate... I am deeply saddened that we may see less of her. She's is one of the best and most beautiful actresses around today in my opinion.   Source

Cate's Couture adventure

(clickie pickies to make them biggie)

Who needs models or other actresses for that matter when you have the unbelievable beautiful Cate Blanchett? This photo shoot for November's Vogue has Cate in her couture finest. She seems equally at home in all of the costumes - transforming herself into a different character for each one.

We've seen the hair hat & armor sleeves before in John Galliano's  Fall 2006 Paris collection.

Talk about a great actress!

The always gorgeous Cate Blanchett goes incognito and gets into character as Bob Dylan in the upcoming I'm Not There. Along with 6 other actors including Heath Ledger, she'll be portraying the curmudgeonly crooner in the biopic. These pics are from the set in Montreal where filming continues... I didn't know how such a beauty could pull off the transformation - but she sure looks a lot like Bob. I think my mom had that wig back in the 70s - I always wondered where it went. ha!  It should be interesting to see how each actor will embody the singer in a different period of his life - sounds arty to me... and enigmatic... and an acquired taste. Just like Bob. Sounds like the perfect way to portray his life... stay tuned.  Source
